Author Guidelines

1. Introduction

Jurnal Laboratorium Khatulistiwa (JLK) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal that publishes high-quality research articles in the field of health sciences. These Author Guidelines are intended to assist authors in preparing manuscripts that meet the journal’s standards for publication.

Authors are strongly encouraged to adhere strictly to these guidelines to ensure a smooth editorial and review process.


2. Scope of the Journal

Jurnal Laboratorium Khatulistiwa (JLK) aims to disseminate conceptual ideas, theoretical developments, and original research findings in the field of Medical Laboratory Science and related health disciplines. The journal serves as a scientific platform for researchers, academics, and practitioners to share knowledge and advancements that contribute to the development of laboratory-based health sciences.

JLK particularly focuses on key issues and recent developments in Medical Laboratory Science, including but not limited to the following areas:

  • Toxicology
  • Immunoserology
  • Bacteriology
  • Clinical Chemistry
  • Parasitology
  • Mycology
  • Other related disciplines in medical laboratory and health sciences

The journal welcomes high-quality manuscripts that provide significant contributions to scientific knowledge, methodological advancements, and practical applications in laboratory medicine and allied health fields.


3. Submission Policy

  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration by other journals.
  • Submissions may be written in Bahasa Indonesia or English.
  • Manuscripts should be submitted through the official journal submission system.
  • Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the content prior to submission.

4. Manuscript Preparation

4.1 General Formatting

  • Font: Times New Roman
  • Font size: 11 pt (main text)
  • Line spacing: Single spacing
  • Text alignment: Justified

4.2 Manuscript Structure

a. Title

  • The title should be concise, informative, and reflect the content of the article.
  • Written in Times New Roman, 14 pt, bold.

b. Authors and Affiliations

  • List full names of all authors without academic degrees.
  • Include institutional affiliations and the corresponding author’s email address.
  • Written in Times New Roman, 12 pt, bold.

c. Abstract

  • Must be written in italic, Times New Roman 11 pt, single spacing.
  • Length: 100–250 words.
  • Should include:
    • Background
    • Methods
    • Results
    • Conclusion
  • Language requirements:
    • Manuscripts in Indonesian → Abstract in Indonesian and English
    • Manuscripts in English → Abstract in English only

d. Keywords

  • Provide 3–6 keywords.
  • Written in Times New Roman 11 pt.

5. Main Content

5.1 Introduction

The Introduction should clearly present:

  • Background of the study
  • Review of relevant previous studies (state of the art)
  • Scientific novelty
  • Research problem or hypothesis
  • Objectives of the study

A separate literature review section is not permitted; it should be integrated into the Introduction.
All citations must follow the Vancouver referencing style.


5.2 Methods

This section should describe:

  • Research design
  • Study population/sample
  • Data collection procedures
  • Data analysis methods

For studies involving human or animal subjects, authors must include the ethical clearance approval number.


5.3 Results

  • Present findings clearly and systematically.
  • Data must be accurate and relevant to the research objectives.
  • Results should directly address the research questions or hypotheses.

Tables:

  • Title placed above the table
  • Use Times New Roman 10 pt
  • Avoid vertical lines

Figures:

  • Caption placed below the figure
  • Use Times New Roman 10 pt

5.4 Discussion

  • Interpret the results and explain their significance.
  • Compare findings with previous studies.
  • Highlight the contribution and novelty of the research.
  • Use Vancouver citation style.

5.5 Conclusion

  • Summarize the main findings of the study.
  • Conclusions must be concise and aligned with the research objectives.
  • Avoid repetition of results.
  • Include recommendations for future research if applicable.

6. References

  • A minimum of 15 references is required.
  • References must be relevant and primarily derived from scientific journals and academic books.
  • All cited works must be listed in the reference section.
  • The referencing style used is Vancouver style.

Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software such as:

  • Mendeley
  • EndNote
  • Zotero

7. Ethical Considerations

  • Manuscripts must be free from plagiarism.
  • Authors must ensure the originality of their work.
  • Proper citation must be provided for all sources.
  • Ethical approval is mandatory for research involving human or animal subjects.

8. Review and Publication Process

All submitted manuscripts will undergo:

  1. Initial editorial screening
  2. Peer-review process
  3. Revision (if required)
  4. Final decision by the editorial board

The editorial board reserves the right to reject manuscripts that do not comply with the journal standards.


9. Final Remarks

Manuscripts that do not adhere to these guidelines will be returned to the authors for correction prior to the review process. Authors are advised to carefully review the template and guidelines before submission.
